Description: With Natural Kitchen Dyes you can explore the magical world of natural dyes, without the need of a garden full of dye plants. Our kitchens are a great source of natural dye colours, from vegetable peels that create blush pinks and peaches, fruit skins that make lemon yellows, a green dye sourced from carrot tops, dried spices and used tea bags to create vibrant yellows, rich terracottas and deep browns. Natural Kitchen Dyes takes you through the exciting process of creating these wonderful natural colours, dyeing fabric with the dyes and suggests ingenious ways to get your hands on some natural dye sources. Accompanying the natural dye recipes in the book are ten environmentally conscious projects, which have been created not only to show off the natural dyes beautifully, but to help eliminate waste. Several of the projects actually utilise waste that would otherwise be composted or recycled such as old clothes turned into bags and patchwork floor cushions, to dried pulses past their expiration date used to make a beaded necklace.

Description: Even a quick walk in the countryside or Sunday stroll along the beach can yield the most interesting and attractive materials for making beautiful decorations for the home. In this book Becci will show you how to form simple wreaths out of foraged elements, with an emphasis on recycling and using sustainable materials. Basic techniques for a variety of seasonal projects are demonstrated, and these can then be used to create smaller garlands, such as napkin rings and candle table centres. Becci focuses on commonly found elements, foraging for plants and foliage and sourcing inspiration from nature; you don’t need to be a trained florist to design gorgeous wreaths and garlands for yourself or your friends. The featured projects will cover wreaths for all seasons, from scented lavender hearts to harvest festival straw circles, and we will explore how to make them from more unusual materials such as pool noodles. The emphasis will be on recycling too, so you will be able to create a garland that can be changed throughout the year to suit your decor and mood.

Description: Making is good for you. Exploring crafts can be relaxing and therapeutic : the projects in this book are accessible to anyone who is inspired to recycle old clothes and textiles into unique, decorative, useful projects. Our forbears improvised tools to recycle their worn clothes - mostly dark suiting or mill waste if they lived near a mill. Usually they made mats for their cold floors or as draft excluders across doors. Nowadays you can choose from so many more colours and textures - painting with rags! Try one project or more. You will be able to use the techniques to design and make your own one-off items for your home or as hand-made gifts. The techniques here are traditional and simple - you will be surprised at how drab fabrics become transformed. Simple designs work best and you can even improvise as you work. If a fabric runs out, then use another - I call that organic design! Hooking is the best technique for pictorial detail and different techniques could be combined for original wall art. Historically, rugs were made by several people sitting round a horizontal frame with the children cutting the pieces of rag which were prodded into the hessian (burlap) backing to make a shaggy mat. There is a prodded project (for purists) but you can also achieve the same effect without a frame by progging, which can be done on table or thigh (carefully). Warning – this craft can be addictive!

The style of the book will be engaging and personal, in that it is intended to guide the reader through the process as something enjoyable, rather than approach it in a purely step by step approach.
